Nordic Walking and well being workshops. SARAHBSMALLER

Nordic Walking is the latest revolutionary full body workout that you can do anywhere. You can work the upper body whilst you're walking by using specially designed Nordic Walking Poles. Above you see Pip Bateman who taught Sarah Beeny how to Nordic Walk as part of the BBC Village SOS series.

So what is Nordic Walking? Originating in the 1930s when cross country skiers devised a way of training in the summer months using just poles, it wasn't until the 1980s that what is now known as Nordic Walking really began.

In the late 1990s 3 key organisations in Finland collaborated to develop this emerging recreational activity. INWA (International Nordic Walking Federation) was formed in 2000 with the aim of promoting Nordic Walking globally. Nordic Walking arrived in the UK in 2005 with British Nordic Walking forming in 2008.

Today 20% of the population of Finland Nordic Walk and it is estimated that there are now over 10 million Nordic Walkers throughout the world in over 20 countries.

"Its like a massage for my neck and shoulders and I sleep so much better"

Nordic Walking enhances your natural walking experience. With a technique that is similar to the upper body action of classic cross country skiing, Nordic Walking becomes a genuine whole body exercise that can be enjoyed at many levels, from walking for health to athletic Nordic running.

" It is amazing to realise that something easier to do than walking actually burns calories!"

The benefits include:

•Burns 400 calories per hour
•Exercises 90% of your skeletal muscle
•Releases shoulder / neck tension
•Reduces the impact on joints
•Requires less effort than normal walking
•Prevents the progression of osteoporosis

" Nordic really uplifts me. I have low moods sometimes. I don't need anti-depressants - I have Nordic Walking "

Nordic Walking and well being workshops. Nordic Walking

An introduction to Nordic Walking (Outdoor activity)

Nordic Walking is an exciting new outdoor walking technique using specially designed poles. Often described as a full body workout, it is a fun way of toning the back, chest and arms. This dynamic exercise relieves tension in the neck and shoulders and can help conditions such as whiplash, fibromyalgia, backache and MS. The class will introduce you to the benefits of Nordic Walking at an outdoor venue of your choice for classes of up to 15 people. This is an excellent team building activity!

An introduction to Thought Field Therapy (TFT)

TFT is a simple meridian balancing technique, which can provide relief from pain, phobias, craving, diseases and emotional issues. Simply stated, it is a unique version of acupuncture except you don't use needles. Instead, you stimulate well-established energy meridian points on your body by tapping them with your fingertips. The process is easy to memorize and is portable so you can do it anywhere. This interactive workshop arms you with tools to take away and use immediately and safely.

Massage skills workshops

We have workshop leaders with an array of skills to pass on. Any of our hands on therapies can be delivered in workshop style enabling you to take away practical skills for use as self help techniques and with family and friends. We will tailor make the session to suit your requests and needs.

Peer Massage is for adults too

Peer Massage has been introduced to UK schools to enhance children’s sense of health & well being. The ‘weather massage’ is for adults too and is a fun way to learn clothed upper body massage techniques. Working in pairs you will work through a story, learning massage skills that you will be able to practise on your friends and family.
